Brits have woken up to settled snow across the UK this morning as a cold snap descending on the country causes temperatures to plunge to 0C and below.
While much of the coverage is relatively insignificant, Met Office forecasters have released snow and ice alerts for parts of Britain this morning, warning people to expect potentially hazardous conditions.
The meteorological agency has predicted dozens of areas will experience some form of disruption as the cold snap continues to work its way across the country.
Warnings suggest the snow has travelled down from Scotland into northern England, where snowflakes will mix with rain in freezing temperatures.
Maps show the extent of the settled totals, with up to an inches-worth of snow expected over some of the country’s worst-hit areas as the mercury descends to bitter lows.

Met Office weather charts show snow showers started breaking out in Scotland in the afternoon on Tuesday, November 28, while rain and hail circled the east coast.
Snow travelled inland at approximately 3.15pm yesterday and has gradually intensified to cover a broader area – primarily high ground north of Aberdeen – and deeper settled totals.
Maps show that early this morning, people living in those areas saw more than 4mm of snow descending per hour.
Warning charts provided by the Met Office predict the snow will travel down England as far as Norwich, with settled snow expected along the length of the east coast.
A yellow snow and ice alert for England and Scotland commences from 5pm today for six regions and dozens of smaller areas and will remain active until 11am on Thursday, November 30.
The warnings state that rain showers will “fall as snow” over the east coast down to Norwich overnight, causing widespread travel difficulties and potentially injuries.
The yellow alerts – which will be in effect for Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, Southwest Scotland to the Lothian Borders, Northeast England, Yorkshire & Humber, and the east of England – also warn of “icy patches”.
The warning states: “Wintry showers will continue to affect northern and eastern parts of Scotland and northeast England during Wednesday evening, overnight and into Thursday morning.”

“These are likely to fall onto frozen surfaces allowing icy patches to form. Additionally, showers will fall as snow inland, with up to 2cm possible in places, perhaps as much as 5 cm over high ground.”
Additional maps from the Met Office show just how low temperatures dropped this morning and how cold the country will remain into the weekend.
In Scotland, charts supplied by the agency show the mercury has dropped to -2C in Glasgow and 0C elsewhere.
Temperatures also dropped to 0C south of the Scottish border in Manchester and into the low single figures (around 3C and below) in London and Cardiff.
