Sung-Yoon Lee, Korea watcher at the Fletcher School, said Kim Jong-un has urged for “smaller, lighter nuclear bombs” to be produced by North Korea. Mr Sung-Yoon added the leader wants North Korea “advancing capabilities in accurate pre-emptive nuclear strike & second-strike capabilities on targets 15,000km away”. It comes after Kim Jong-un has promised to improve relations with world leaders, and has reviewed ties with neighbour South Korea. He made the remarks on relations during the second day of congress for the country’s ruling Worker’s Party, as a new portrait of him in military uniform was unveiled.
