A murder probe has been launched after a woman was found bleeding heavily from her neck in Liverpool.
Police said a 47-year-old man has been arrested for murder after the victim was found in a driveway with fatal neck injuries.
Police scrambled to the scene in Maghull, Merseyside at about 9.20pm last night.
Hero neighbours had tried to save the woman by giving her CPR until paramedics arrived.
Despite their frantic efforts the victim later died in hospital.
Detectives have since arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
The pair were known to each other, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Merseyside Police said today that they have made one arrest as forensic officers begin scouring the area.
And detectives will be conducting house-to-house enquiries to piece together what happened.
A spokesman said: “Officers have arrested a 47 year old man on suspicion of murder yesterday evening (15th August).
"We were called to Moorland Road, Maghull by North West Ambulance Service at around 9:20pm following a concern for safety of a 45 year old woman in the area.
"The woman was taken to hospital where she sadly passed away.
Specialist officers are supporting her relatives at this difficult time.
"Investigations are ongoing into the full circumstances and forensic analysis as well as house to house enquiries will likely continue throughout the weekend.”
