The government has released a prison-by-prison breakdown of what many inmates around the country will get to eat this Sunday.

While the information for every prison isn’t available in the document, which is undated, information has been released for a number of institutions around the country – including the eight high-security prisons.

At London’s high-security HMP Belmarsh, prisoners will be having an unconventional Christmas meal of leek soup, followed by either a coronation chicken, tuna and cucumber or cheese and tomato baguette.

They will all be given a slice of Christmas cake, a mince pie and some fruit.

Elsewhere, things were a little more traditional, with inmates at HMP Lincoln set to be given roast turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets with roast potatoes, carrots, sprouts and Christmas pudding.

For those who don’t eat meat, there’s a vegan schnitzel or a fish bake.

Things are a little less exciting for prisoners in HMP Brixton, where according to the document, Christmas dinner will not be held.

Many institutions meanwhile have opted for prisoners to be given a half-roast chicken, often as a Halal option, rather than sliced turkey, including HMP Ranby, HMP Wormwood Scrubs and HMP Bristol.

Despite this, most of the prisons on the list offered varieties of turkey or beef, often with all the trimmings.

HMP Channing Woods appears to be taking a leaf out of the South Korean tradition of eating KFC on Christmas day, by offering a chicken southern-style option for its inmates.

Most of the prisons on the list provided options for those inside, often between those who do and don’t eat meat but often also with options about which animal for those who do.

For inmates in HMP Stafford, prisoners have been given the choice between a nut roast, fish with lemon and prawn dressing, roast turkey, roast pork, chicken and spinach curry, stuffed butternut squash or a vegetarian noodle grill.

For those in HMP Buckley Hall it's all about the morning, with a vegetarian full breakfast, full English, or a halal breakfast at the top of the bill.

Many places offered salmon en croute, with pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and stuffing all regularly featured on menus.
