Vladimir Putin has called for a “severe” response to foreign agents allegedly aiding Ukraine in destabilising Russia.
In a stern and uncompromising address on Wednesday, the Russian leader accused the Ukrainian government, with the direct support of foreign special services, of resorting to “terrorist methods” that he described as “practically state terrorism.”
In a video statement, Putin expressed his concerns about what he perceived as acts of sabotage against various civilian sites, as well as targeted attacks on transportation and energy infrastructure.
He claimed these actions extended to assaults on civilians and representatives of authority, painting a grim picture of the situation unfolding between the two nations.
He said: “The attempts by foreign special agents to destabilise the political and social situation in Russia must be severely stopped.”
The Russian president’s comments come amid reports of numerous incidents, including sabotage on Russian railroads and drone attacks, which Moscow has attributed to Ukraine since the launch of its offensive in February 2022.
Putin accused Ukraine of engaging in terrorist activity and claoimed they are trying to “sabotage” Russian civilians.
He said: “The Kyiv regime with direct support of foreign special services has taken the path of terrorist methods, practically state terrorism.
“These are acts of sabotage against civilian sites, transport and energy infrastructure, attacks against civilians and representatives of authority.”
Speaking on the occasion of Security Agency Workers’ Day, Putin underscored the challenges faced by security services in safeguarding the nation.

He emphasised the gravity of the situation, and said: “Security services have no easy task. But you have all the necessary potential, all the possibilities in order to ensure the security of the state, of society, and our citizens.”
This comes as foreign aid for Ukraine is drying up, with the US especially struggling to send more over for the war effort. Without foreign aid, the possibility of Ukraine losing the war becomes even more likely.
The Russian president’s strong words reflect a deepening rift between Russia and Ukraine, with tensions escalating on multiple fronts.
The accusations of foreign interference and support for terrorism are likely to heighten international concerns and prompt reactions from global leaders.
