"Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 0313 of December 2, 2020."

North West Ambulance Service has confirmed its staff attended a "police incident" in Burnley.

It comes a day after shops finally reopened after a month-long coronavirus lockdown which saw all non-essential businesses forced to close their doors again.

The Marks and Spencer is located in Burnley town centre along with other popular shops.

Locals were enjoying the return to normality and likely getting some Christmas shopping done when the stabbing occurred.

Burnley Police had issued a statement earlier on Wednesday morning celebrating the reopening of local businesses and reminding shoppers to keep safe by social distancing.

"It is December 2nd so that means one thing… Lockdown 2 has come to an end!" the force's official Twitter account said.

"Your favourite shops will be open in the town centre & officers will be about so if you see them please say hello! While the shops may have reopened, keep safe by remembering: Hands, Face, Space."
