It’s easy to see why Europe is a popular place to explore.
With its array of countries that are easy to travel between as well as its huge diversity of cultures and landscapes, there really is something for everyone.
But not everyone wants to visit somewhere that people flock to – and instead many hanker for a place that a bit more off the beaten track.
If that sounds like your bag – then Sibiu in Romania could be for you.
Travel blogger Gabby Boucher, a 28-year-old from Sydney, Australia certainly thinks so.

On her travel blog Budget Travel With Gabby she lists ‘20 Non Touristy Places In Europe’ and showers Sibiu with praise.
She said: “Romania is a truly underrated country in Europe. It’s so affordable to visit and it is full of stunning attractions like castles, mountains, and more.
“Sibiu is a small city in the Transylvania region of Romania. This place honestly feels like somewhere out of a folktale.
“The buildings are cute and colorful and covered in decorations. The streets are peaceful, the people are kind, the food is hearty. Though it was freezing when I visited in winter, the falling snow just made the city that much more charming.”

Sibiu is nicknamed The Town with Eyes due to its historical buildings with partly open rooftops.
The city is known for its culture, history and local cuisine as well as its diverse architecture. It is located in central Romania and is 171 miles north west of Bucharest, straddling the Cibin River, a tributary of the Olt River.
And Gabby is not the only one to be sold on the city’s charms, as the city clinched a place in Forbes’ list of ‘10 Of Europe’s Most Beautiful Small Towns’.
It said: “A former European Capital of Culture, the Transylvanian town of Sibiu is known for its Germanic architecture in the old town, a legacy of the 12th-century Saxon settlers. The medieval walls, towers and squares of the UNESCO-listed historic centre are well preserved.
“A main attraction is the cast-iron Bridge of Lies, so called because of the legends that surround it—including the one that says it was often crossed by lovers who made grand promises to one another and were then tossed off when those promises proved untrue.”
