Terrifying moment Crimean Bridge rocked by explosion on Putins key crossing

Shocking footage has emerged of the recent explosion on a bridge in Crimea, showing the massive scale of the blast.

The footage comes following breaking news that the massive Kerch bridge, which joins Crimea to Russia, had been damaged.

At least one giant explosion is thought to have taken place, as evidence appears to pile up that it could have been caused by an attack.

The news comes as a blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who had only hours before celebrated his 70th birthday.

The bridge stands as a symbol of Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea and is a key supply route, yet it is a hated structure by Ukrainians.

Some witnesses have claimed that there were two explosions involved on the bridge, which reportedly continued to burn following the blast.

It is understood to have been heard miles away, with the new footage raising suspicions that it might have been the product of a suicide attack.

A truck driving along the carriageway can be seen at the centre of the explosion, but questions still hang over the event – no reports of missile sightings have yet been received.

An observer can be heard in one video saying: "It seems to me there were two explosions, no? — If it was a missile, it would hit the second [rail] bridge too in any case.”

Mykhailo Podolyak, a Ukrainian Presidential advisor, tweeted: “Crimea, the bridge, the beginning. Everything illegal must be destroyed, everything stolen must be returned to Ukraine, everything belonging to the Russian occupation must be expelled.”

News of the explosion comes as fears rise about what Putin’s response to the attack might be.

Reports have already begun to come in of increased missile strikes on civilian targets, with overnight explosions reported in the north-eastern city of Kharkiv.

Russia has launched a criminal investigation into the explosion according to its Investigation Committee.
