A suspect has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting at a southeast Denver apartment complex.
The shooting happened on May 7 in the 10700 block of East Dartmouth Avenue, according to Denver police. Jeremy Polito, 23, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Carl Kern, who was 36 at the time of the shooting, has been identified as the victim, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. Kern was pronounced dead at Swedish Medical Center the day of the shooting. He died of a gunshot wound, and the manner of his death is a homicide.
Polito was a resident of the Pembrooke on the Green Apartments, where the shooting took place, according to an arrest affidavit. Police served a search warrant at the suspect’s apartment on May 7 and recovered a .38 Smith & Wesson Special revolver. The handgun was found rolled up in a sleeping bag in a bedroom. Four live rounds and two spent cartridge casings were in the weapon.
The bullet that killed Kern is “similar to the bullets found in Polito’s apartment,” the affidavit said.
On Monday, Polito was contacted by the police fugitive unit at a residence on the 800 block of South Oneida Street, the affidavit said. He was taken to police headquarters where he was interviewed and arrested.
Polito appeared in court Tuesday. His bond is set at $200,000, according to court records.
