Two brothers were brutally stabbed and their sister slashed in the face after an uninvited guest reportedly violently lashed out with a weapon at a family wake.
The mourners congregated at a pub in Clifton after a funeral on May 21, 2019, Nottingham Crown Court heard on Monday.
As the family and friends gathered in one room, Chantelle Phillips noticed stranger Kyle Parkin, 32, repeatedly walking past her table where she was sitting, Nottinghamshire reports.
Parkin was reportedly visibly drunk and wearing a high visibility vest.
He allegedly approached Chantelle and asked for her name and if he could have her number before moving to another part of the club when the request was declined.
Daniel Phillips, Chantelle's brother, later noticed Parkin staring at him in what he believed was a confrontational manner.
Parkin, who was heavily intoxicated and had been using cocaine the night before, had his hand in his right pocket holding an object during the stare down.
A little while later when Daniel and his brother, Lee Philips, went to the bar Parkin approached them with his hand in his pocket.
Thinking the stranger was going for a knife, Daniel punched him and knocked him to the ground.
Parkin then pulled up and pulled out what was thought to be a knife at the time and thrust it into Lee Phillips' ribs.

Chantelle was slashed in the face and Daniel stabbed in his left leg and in his ribs.
Mr Fountain, prosecuting, said: "The defendant did not willingly relinquish the weapon to the crowd or go peacefully and there was a fracas between two function rooms before he left the pub."
Daniel Philips needed 16 stitches to close the stab wound to his leg,
Chantelle suffered a nasty slash wound to her left eye which required four stitches, if it had been reportedly 'half-an-inch lower' it would have hit her eyeball.

Parkin admitted three charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and two offences of possessing a bladed object.
His total sentence was set at seven-and-a-half years in custody and four-and-a-half years on extended licence.
Judge James Sampson said he had found Parkin to be dangerous in the meaning of the statutory criteria.
Parkin is due to be eligible for consideration of release when two-thirds of the sentence has been served.
Matthew Smith, mitigating, said Parkin has 23 previous convictions for 66 offences, including affray and robbery.
Sergeant Stephanie Clough, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It is clear Parkin intended to cause serious harm during these violent assaults by sticking a knife into the bodies of the two brothers and striking their sister to the eye.
“Parkin has caused considerable physical and mental damage to the victims as a result of this horrific incident. I hope it brings them some closure and comfort now this dangerous man has been taken off our streets for a lengthy period of time".
