A Plymouth band has announced it will be splitting up in a social media statement following a bandmates murder charge.

Rakuda took to Facebook this morning, announcing the split after lead guitarist Cody Ackland was due to appear at Plymouth Magistrates' Court, accused of the murder of Bobbi-Anne McLeod.

The former bandmates stated they would be disbanding the group 'as a mark of respect' to the 18-year-old Leigham teenager, Plymouth Live reports.

The four remaining members of the band, Josh, Ross, Josh, and Mike posted on the band's Facebook page just this morning – explaining that the band is 'extremely shocked and in complete disbelief' by the tragic events that have unfolded over the last several days.

Ackland, 24, from Southway, was the lead guitarist and main songwriter for the band.

Since the news that Ackland has been charged with murder, Rakuda has removed its band photos from the Facebook page, and changed its profile picture to a candle – in tribute to Bobbi-Anne McLeod.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the band wrote: "The remaining members of Rakuda; Josh, Ross, Josh and Mike are all extremely shocked and in complete disbelief by the tragic event that has unfolded over the last several days.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Bobbi-Anne McLeod’s family and friends who must be devastated at their loss.

"As a mark of respect, we have decided that we shall not be going forward as a band and will be disbanding with immediate effect. We will not be making any further comments at this time."

Confirming the 24-year-old man had been charged, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection to the disappearance of 18-year-old Bobbi-Anne McLeod.

"Cody Ackland from the Southway area of Plymouth, has been charged with murder and remanded in police custody. He is due to appear at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Friday 26 November.

"The family of Bobbi-Anne have been informed of this update and continue to be supported by specialist officers.”
