Schoolgirl, 11, dies in hospital four days after being hit by car

An 11-year-old girl who was hit by a car four days ago has tragically died from her injuries.

The unnamed youngster was struck by a Toyota Verso on Thursday evening on a road in Coventry.

She was found critically injured and had to be rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

The 53-year-old male driver of the Verso that struck her was also treated at the scene.

Police confirmed on Monday that the girl sadly died in the early hours of this morning.

West Midlands Police said in a statement: "The 53-year-old driver of the Verso remained at the scene, but was not spoken to at the time as he required medical attention.

"He will be spoken to in due course as we seek to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

"The family of the girl is now being supported by specialist officers as our investigation continues.

"We're keen to hear from anyone with dash cam footage, or who was in the area at the time and has not spoken to us already.
