A school has been forced to inform parents it will not be providing litter trays for pupils who identify as cats.
Baffled mums and dads received a letter from the high school stressing that it was not “acceptable” for pupils to refuse to use toilets. It followed alleged pleas for separate facilities by so-called “furries” who claim to be pets.
Council bosses say West Monmouth School – whose ex-pupils include Sir Anthony Hopkins – had to speak out over bizarre rumours spreading online. Deputy headteacher Claire Hughes wrote: “It has come to our attention that there appears to be a number of queries and concerns raised within the community regarding the use of litter trays at West Monmouth School.

“I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that we do not and will not be planning on providing any litter trays at the school. Whilst we are an inclusive and welcoming school, we do not make any provision for any
pupils who might identify as an animal of any kind.”
Hoax stories emerged of children describing themselves as “furries” – animals with very human characteristics – attending the 1,000-pupil school in Pontypool, south Wales.

Earlier this year the Daily Star reported a secondary school has been forced to deny rumours that some of its students were identifying as cats.
There were also claims that pupils were defecating on the school's floor when litterboxes weren't provided. The bizarre rumours surrounded Banff Academy in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and came from a post on the Banff and Macduff Community Group Facebook page.
