Road closures in Colorado: I-70, I-76 closed due to blizzard, snow

A winter storm in eastern Colorado is causing most major highways to close to due safety concerns from whiteout conditions and high wind warnings.

The National Weather Service advises travelers to avoid driving in the plains due to the “life-threatening” conditions.

8:03 a.m.: Colo. 23 from Holyoke to the Nebraska border is closed.

7:51 a.m.: Colo. 59’s closure has extended from Seibert to Cope.

7:20 a.m. — Interstate 70 is closed in both directions from the Kansas border to Limon and again from Limon to Watkins due to safety concerns.

Interstate 76 is closed in both directions from the Nebraska border to Sterling, and Interstate 76 eastbound is closed from Brush to Sterling.

U.S. 36 from Last Chance to the Kansas border is closed.

U.S. 40 from Limon to Kit Carson is closed.

Colo. 86 is closed from Kiowa to Interstate 70.

Colo. 59 from Kit Carson to Seibert is closed.

U.S. 138 is also closed from Sterling to the Nebraska border.

U.S. 6 is closed from Brush to Sterling and again from east of Sterling to the Nebraska border.

U.S. 34 is closed from Brush to the Nebraska border.

U.S. 385 is closed between Idalia and Julesburg.

Most state highways in northeast Colorado are also closed: Colo. 14 from Ault to Sterling; Colo. 392 from Lucerne to Briggsdale; Colo. 52 from Fort Morgan to Raymer; Colo. 71 from Brush to the Nebraska border; Colo. 113 from Iliff to the Nebraska border; Colo. 59 from Yuma to Sedgwick; Colo. 61 from Otis to Sterling; and Colo. 63 from Akron to Atwood.
