Princess Beatrice’s baby will have a title due to father’s Italian lineage

Princess Beatrice, 32, has announced she is expecting a child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 38.

The Royal baby is due in Autumn 2021, and the Queen, who is Beatrice's grandmother, is said to be delighted.

Princess Beatrice and her husband's baby will be the Queen's 12th great-grandchild, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter is born this summer.

When both babies are born, it will change the line of succession, with Beatrice's falling 11th in line to the throne.

We don't know whether the newest addition to the Royal Family will be a boy or a girl – but we do know that Princess Beatrice's child will be given a title.

This is despite the fact that her sister Princess Eugenie's son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, doesn't have one.

The reason for this has nothing to do with the British Royal family – but Edo's Italian lineage.

The children of the likes of Eugenie, Beatrice and their cousin Prince Harry aren't given Royal titles due to rules set down by King George V more than 100 years ago.

Originally, Prince George was the only great-grandchild of the Monarch to get the title Prince.

However, the Queen stepped in ahead of his birth to issue a Letters Patent to ensure all of Prince William's children would get a title.

But because Beatrice's husband is an Italian count, it means the child will either become a count, or a nobile donna.

After Beatrice and Edo's wedding in July 17, she herself inherited a new title.

As well as being a Princess, she is now an Italian countess.

Speaking about his son's lineage, Edoardo's father Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi told Daily Mail: "Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation.

"He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna."

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: "Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year.

"The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news."
