Prince Harry dubbed ‘hostage’ by royal staff ahead of Meghan Markle wedding

Prince Harry was branded "the hostage" by palace aides before his marriage to Meghan Markle, an reported insider has claimed.

The couple reportedly fell out with some royal staff shortly before their wedding at Windsor Castle in May 2018.

The Duke of Sussex, 36, is said to have had a disagreement with Angela Kelly, the Queen's dresser, over Meghan's tiara.

It is claimed a dispute broke out when the duchess wanted to wear the priceless Queen Mary's Diamond Bandeau Tiara for an impromptu visit to a hair salon, which Kelly refused.

The argument is even reported to have led to the Queen telling Harry off after he was supposedly heard shouting "what Meghan wants, Meghan gets".

A royal source has now claimed some staff began calling the prince "the hostage".

The insider told the Telegraph Meghan "got everything she wanted but it still wasn't enough".

"She was constantly looking for reasons to say she had been deprived," they said.

"Also, she wanted drama from the very beginning. In the centre of a storm, she’d always be very calm."

The latest allegations follows a dramatic week for the pair, who are understood to have upset the Royal Family over their decision to press ahead with screening their controversial tell-all interview with US chat show icon Oprah Winfrey while Prince Philip, 99, remains ill in hospital.

The show is due to premier in the US on Sunday, with it being aired in the UK on ITV in the early hours of Monday morning.

In the two-hour special, the duchess criticises her life as a working royal, saying being able to agree to do the interview was "liberating".

The couple also open up about Harry's mum Princess Diana and their decision to quit their royal duties.

Markle, meanwhile, has also been accused of bullying palace staff during her time with the "The Firm".

In a new teaser for the show released, Meghan discusses the timing of the interview.

Asked what was "right" about this moment to talk, she said: "Well, so many things. That we're on the other side of a lot of…a lot of life experience that's happened.

"Also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn't have said yes to you then. That wasn't my choice to make.

"As an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that is…different than I think what people imagine it to be, it's really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes."
