Four police officers out together in a bar have been charged in relation to a scrap involving a toilet seat.
The group of three men and one woman were off-duty when a brawl broke about between them and others on July 28, 2020.
According to a source, someone was taken to hospital from Ava's Bar on Renshaw Street, Liverpool City Centre after allegedly being "stabbed with a broken toilet seat" as tensions boiled over in the lavatories.
After the initial incident, a further fight involving a number of parties broke out at the night spot which has led to Merseyside Police charging its own colleagues, the ECHO reports.
After an investigation, PC Paul Grimes, 37, of Childwall Valley Road, Childwall and PC Sean Miley, 31, of Redbank Close, Fazakerley, have each been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Two other officers; PC Lucy Donaldson, 40, of Sergrim Road, Huyton and PC John Thompson, 26, of Benedict Street, Bootle, were each charged with affray.
All four officers deny the offences and are set to stand trial at Manchester Crown Court.
Merseyside Police confirmed the officers were due to stand trial in August but declined to comment further.
