Playstation 5 Amazon restock branded ‘pathetic’ as console sells out in hours

Gamers have piled on top of each other to get a hold of a Playstation 5 after Amazon dropped a new supply – but were soon left disappointed.

The online retailer released a new batch of both the Disk Edition and Digital Edition on Tuesday morning after Argos' new supply sold out overnight.

But Amazon's restock was branded "pathetic" after the consoles sold out before 11am.

Updating fans, Twitter tipster PS5StockAlertUK tweeted: "Amazon UK is dropping in batches. They’re going live and back offline with the purchase button. Keep refreshing!"

The account later added: "Amazon's drop was pathetic and also Game are now looking likely to re-stock tomorrow, curry's we have no idea when or what time they are going to drop…so far this new march amazing combined drops are not going so good! #PS5 "

The consoles also appear unavailable on the site.

It comes after we reported a PS5 apparently being sold for an eye-watering £20,000 on eBay by a "rude" London seller.

That's more than 40 times the must-have console's retail price of £450.

But seller shaqeal11 seemed to believe gamers were desperate enough to shell out the gigantic sum – and was even charging £7.28 for postage – more than three months after the Sony product hit the shelves.

Amazon's release has come soon after thousands of fans piled onto Argos' website in the early hours to snap up one of their supply of the Disc Edition.

PS5StockAlertUK has told fans these are the predicted times for new stock to come online including GAME either 2nd or 3rd March.

Gamers were left confused on Tuesday after predictions GAME would restock PS5s by 9.45am proved incorrect.

The Twitter tipster wrote: "GAME could still drop this afternoon but seeing as they didn’t drop at the scheduled time, most likely tomorrow. We will keep checking though.

"Highly annoying, they don’t often reschedule but it does happen unfortunately. We will keep checking regardless."

  • PS5: Gamers snapping up PS2s amid global sell-out of latest console

Since last week the account has been forecasting a release by GAME on Wednesday, though the account hasn't ruled out a Tuesday drop, the Mirror reports.

Birmingham Live is also predicting that AO will release a new supply on Tuesday after being sent photos claiming to be of the retailer's PS5 stock.

The Twitter tipster has given fans advice on the best way to secure a console from various retailers.

  • PS5 selling for massive £20,000 on eBay plus postage as UK seller branded 'rude'

Their tips include:

GAME – Guest checkout, bundles.

Amazon – Add to basket from wishlist.

Argos – Add to basket from app, checkout on PC.

Curry’s – Nothing particular yet from previous drops.

Many gamers were left without a PS5 console for Christmas, due to high demand and a widespread scalping issue.

It means the coveted units are still going for exorbitant sums on websites like eBay.

And when viewing "completed listings", buyers had paid well over £700 to secure a console, the Sun reports.

Sony has promised more stock in 2021 with insiders linking delays to shortages of the chips that power the consoles.

It's expected that these shortages will be over by June or July.
