A teacher at a top independent boarding school described as "cold and calculating" by police has been jailed after he was caught filming a pupil showering with a spy camera he had bought on Amazon.
Thomas David Ball, 30, from Warwickshire was a senior housemaster at Queen Ethelburga's a fee-paying school near York.
In May 2018, Ball purchased a spy camera online and hid it in the bathroom at the exclusive school and instructed the pupil, who he became "infatuated" with, to take a shower after the teenager returned from registration.
While showering, the boy noticed wires beneath the sink which were connected to a spy camera whose lights were on to show it was active.
Although initially, the pupil handed the device to Ball the pupil later became suspicious and informed his mum of what had happened.
Ball, who had just been promoted to a role monitoring pupils' wellbeing, later admitted to the school's deputy safeguarding leader that he had made a "stupid mistake" and handed the camera to a staff member.
The jury at York Crown Court was told that while the police were called he tried to "conceal evidence" by hiding a second spy camera, a tablet and a memory stick in his car boot.
When police found the tablet they discovered a cache of sickening images of children, including videos showing the rape and torture of young kids.

Despite police finding Ball's fingerprints on the spy camera's memory card and on the device itself, he denied he was behind the covert footage of the naked boy and tried to blame other staff members.
However, when searching Ball's room police found the footage and recovered a laptop and hard drive containing a stash of indecent images of children which had been downloaded using "peer-to-peer" file-sharing software.
Among the images was a video of a child between the ages of two and five years old being raped.
Ball admitted three counts of making indecent images of children and downloading prohibited images.
Ball, of Over Road in Atherstone, was jailed for 20 months on Wednesday (March 18), of which he will serve half behind bars before being released on licence.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order to curb his internet activities and limit his contact with children.
