One man killed after gun he was playing with discharges, Aurora police say

A 38-year-old Aurora man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter Monday after he and another man were playing with his gun, which discharged and killed the second individual, Aurora police said.

Around 11:25 p.m Monday, Aurora police responded to reports of a shooting at the Bella Terra Apartments, 15400 E. Evans Ave., where they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound, police said in a blog post.

Abiel Vigil and the second man were allegedly playing with Vigil’s gun, when the weapon discharged, “striking the victim in the chest and killing him,” police said.

Investigators are still trying to determine who pulled the trigger, Matthew Longshore, a police spokesman, said in an email.

Vigil was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and is being held on $25,000 bail.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim once he has been positively identified and next of kin have been notified.
