Meghan Markles podcast bombshells so far – nursery fire to nude spa trip

In the latest episode of Meghan Markle's Archetypes, the Duchess of Sussex connects with hotel heiress Paris Hilton as they talk about the labels "bimbo" and "dumb blonde".

Paris opens up in a surprising and revealing conversation with the Duchess about how the terms defined her over the years and how she played into the stereotype.

The podcast faced a hiatus just a month into its release following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but the show soon resumed on October 4 after the period of royal mourning concluded.

Throughout the last six episodes of Archetypes, plenty of bombshells have been dropped by both Megan and her guests that have caused a stir on social media.

Here's everything you need to know about all the bombshells so far in Meghan Markle's Archetypes.

Archie's room caught on fire in South Africa

In the first episode of Archetypes, Meghan stated that Archie's room had caught fire during an engagement in South Africa.

She opened up to her close celeb friend and tennis star Serena Williams about the ordeal during her 2019 royal tour.

Meghan told Serena that she and Prince Harry had just landed in Zimbabwe when Archie was taken away for a nap.

While they were at an engagement, a fire broke out in the nursery, according to Meghan.

She explained: "When we went on our tour to South Africa, we landed with Archie – Archie was, what, four and a half months old?"

"The moment we landed, we had to drop him off at this housing unit that they had had us staying in.

"We finish the engagement, we get in the car, and they say, 'There's been a fire at the residence.' What? 'There's been a fire in the baby's room.' What?"

A heater in the nursery had caught fire, but luckily Archie was not in the room when it happened.

Prince Harry played an important role in Serena Williams' retirement

Meghan's husband Prince Harry played an important role in Serena's shock retirement, according to the tennis star.

The former tennis player spoke to the Duke of Sussex at the couple's home in California before making the announcement.

Serena explained on the podcast with Meghan: "You knew about it for a long time, and I talked with Harry about it a lot as well… He was trying to knock some sense into me.

"I just wanted to just walk away quietly. And that's how I've always seen my career. Just like, all right, I wanted to leave with no goodbyes."

Meghan's battle with racism

The Duchess of Sussex touched on her experiences with racism in another podcast episode with pop sensation Mariah Carey.

Meghan spoke to the singer about being mixed race and said she noticed a focus on her skin colour once she started dating the Duke of Sussex.

She explained: "I mean, if there's any time in my life that it's been more focused on my race, it's only once I started dating my husband.

"Then I started to understand what it was like to be treated like a black woman, because up until then, I had been treated like a mixed woman. And things really shifted."

She added: "Representation matters so much. But when you are a woman and you don't see a woman who looks like you somewhere in a position of power or influence, or even just on the screen, because we know how influential media is, you came onto the scene, I was like 'Oh, my gosh. Someone kind of looks like me."

'Gendered language' surrounding royal wedding

While speaking to Mindy King in another podcast episode, Meghan about the media coverage of her relationship with Prince Harry and the couple's wedding.

The Duchess of Sussex said: "When I started dating my husband, we became engaged and everyone was just like, 'Oh my god, you're so lucky! He chose you!'

"And at a certain point, after you hear it a million times over, you're like, 'Well, I chose him too'. But thankfully, I have a partner who was countering that narrative for me and going, 'They've got it all wrong. I'm the lucky one, 'cause you chose me.' "

She added: "It's gendered and it's archetyped and it's stereotyped… 'You're so lucky'

"And it just feeds into this idea that you're waiting for someone to tell you that you're good enough, as opposed to knowing that you're good enough on your own."

Meghan was 'criticised for having ambition'

In the episode with Serena, Meghan spoke about the negative connotations of a woman having ambition.

She told the tennis ace: "I don't remember personally feeling the negative connotation behind the word ambitious until I started dating my now husband, and apparently, ambition is a terrible, terrible thing. For women.

"Since I felt the negativity behind it, it's really hard to unfeel it. I can't unsee it either in the millions of girls and women who make themselves smaller, so much smaller on a regular basis."

Meghan once stripped off at a nude spa

In an Archetypes episode with Margaret Cho, Meghan delved into her younger years as she confessed to stripping off at a Korean nude spa.

She said: "It's a very humbling experience for a girl going through puberty because you enter a room with women from ages nine to maybe 90, all walking around naked and waiting to get a body scrub on one of these tables that are all lined up in a row.

"All I wanted was a bathing suit."

Meghan was an 'ugly duckling' when she was younger

During her interview with Mindy Kaling, which was released days before the Queen's death, Meghan made a shock admission about her body image as a child.

The Suits actress went on to describe herself as an "ugly duckling" growing up.

She explained: "Look, maybe not conventional beauty as it … now, maybe that would be seen as beautiful but massive frizzy curly hair and a huge gap in my teeth.

"I was the smart one. Forever and ever and ever and ever. And, and then just sort of grew up."

In the same podcast episode, the Duchess also admitted she was a "loner" at school and struggled to make friends.

"But I never had anyone to sit with at lunch. I was always a little bit of a loner and really shy and didn't know where I fit in," she added.
