Meghan erases her first names from Archie’s birth certificate in ‘Diana nod’

Prince Harry's wife Meghan Markle secretly erased her first name from son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor’s birth certificate, a royal expert said.

Lady Colin Campbell reportedly spotted an amendment in Archie’s birth certificate that came as a surprise to her.

She told The Sun "Rachel Meghan" was taken off of Archie’s certificate to just leave "Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex".

The change is understood to have been made on June 5 2019, just under a month after Archie was born on May 6 2019.

Archie's birth was initially registered on May 17, according to records, which means Meghan and Harry changed her name a little over two weeks after the registration of his birth.

Lady Colin Campbell said the move is "extraordinary" and "raises all kinds of questions about what the Sussexes were thinking".

At the time, there was a rumoured rift between Prince Harry and his brother Prince William as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex walked away from their join charity.

Within a year of Archie's birth, Meghan and Harry had quit royal life and moved to California in the United States, where they now live in Montecito.

Expert Ingrid Seward told the publication any change to a birth certificate is "unprecedented" but said it was "remarkable" that forenames were removed.

She claimed it may have been a "sign" the couple were "desperate" to do something different to the Cambridges, who had included Kate's names on the certificate of all three of her children, Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and Prince George.

The move may have also been a sweet nod to Prince Harry's mum, Princess Diana who always used "Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales" instead of her birth given name.

Meghan and Harry reportedly kept a photograph of Princess Diana in Archie’s nursery as a homage to his grandmother’s memory.
