The company has now said that it will add labels to posts about the vaccines to curb a spate of conspiracy theories about vaccinations that are regularly trending online. In a Facebook post, the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote: “The data shows the vaccines are safe and they work. They’re our best hope for getting past this virus and getting back to normal life.
“I’m looking forward to getting mine, and I hope you are too.”
Mr Zuckerberg added: “We’re adding a label on posts that discuss the safety of COVID-19 vaccines.
“These labels will note that COVID-19 vaccines go through tests for safety and effectiveness before they’re approved.”
The announcement comes after Facebook received criticism for not tackling the circulation of misinformation about the vaccines on its social media platform.
The company added an additional measure, that would give Facebook users information on how to get vaccinated.

Facebook has set up a COVID-19 Information Centre to give information to users.
In a blog post on Monday the company said it was adding the labels after criticism from health experts and lawmakers for allowing misinformation about vaccines to spread on its platform.
These labels will be added to COVID-19 vaccine posts in the coming weeks.
Facebook also plans to add targeted labels to other specific coronavirus vaccine subtopics.
The social media giant said that users who share a post about coronavirus vaccines on Facebook or Instagram will see an additional popup with an informational label.
The company says that this pop-up label will give people “context they need to make informed decisions about what to share”.
