Interstate 70 at the Eisenhower Tunnel has been closed by a police situation, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
A 911 caller reported that a Kia SUV, traveling westbound, contained an “explosive device” and the vehicle has been stopped, said Trooper Josh Lewis, a CSP spokesman.
The highway has been shut down in both directions as a safety precaution, Lewis said.
The SUV was stopped on the westside of the tunnel. Westbound lanes are shutdown at the east portal of the tunnel. Eastbound lanes are closed in Silverthorne.
Loveland Pass is open. Traffic delays should be expected in the area. There was no immediate estimate on when the highway will reopen.
