HSBC announce 114 high street bank branches will close – heres the list in full

High street banking giants HSBC is set to close a whopping 114 branches, and has blamed the Coronavirus pandemic for doing so.

Starting in April 2023, the closures will affect around 25% of its current branches.

It has pledged to spent tens of millions of pounds improving the remaining 327 branches.

According to HSBC, one of the branches closing was only serving around 250 customers per week, while use of its mobile phone app has tripled since 2017.

Managing director Jackie Uhi said: “People are changing the way they bank and footfall in many branches is at an all-time low, with no signs of it returning.

“Banking remotely is becoming the norm for the vast majority of us.

“The decision to close a branch is never easy or taken lightly, especially if we are the last branch in an area, so we've invested heavily in our 'post-closure' strategy, including providing free tablet devices to selected branch customers who do not already have a device to bank digitally, alongside one-to-one coaching to help them migrate to digital banking.”
