The doomed aircraft was captured on video by shocked residents of a Moscow suburb before crashing into woodland sparking a giant explosion. The plane is believed to have been an Ilyushin Il-112V, a new prototype transport designed for the Russian Air force. The stricken Ilyushin Il-112V can be seen flying at a low altitude before flames erupt from one of the engines and the plane makes a sudden turn before plowing into the ground.
A frantic exchange can be heard during the recording as the shocked residents watch the plane descend.
“Oh god, what a nightmare,” a boy can be heard exclaim.
“Is it falling?” the woman with him asks.
The pair then watch on in horror as the plane crash lands and erupts into a fireball.
A local emergency service spokesman said: “The aircraft exploded after the fall and is now completely destroyed.”
All three crew members on board the aircraft are believed to have been killed.
The Ilyushin Il-112V is considered to be a crucial part of Vladimir Putin’s plans to modernise the Russian military.
Russian state-run news agency TASS has reported the plane was on a test flight and was being flown by a veteran test pilot named Nikolai Kuimov.
