The US President told reporters on Friday that his health was “good” after he underwent his annual check-up and a colonoscopy which saw Vice President Kamala Harris briefly become POTUS as Joe Biden was put to sleep for the procedure.

The President insisted “I feel great” as he assured reporters that he was ok to continue work as the President.

He also highlighted how “nothing has changed” and that he is in “great shape” with his health as he appeared to dampen any speculation that might arise from his hospital visit.

Mr Biden told reporters that the White House will “release all the detail” of the procedure to make sure Americans know the state of their leaders’ health.

But in a joking jibe, Mr Biden added how he was “looking forward to celebrating my 58th birthday”, a comment which sparked laughter from reporters.

As a result, Ms Harris became the first woman to hold US presidential powers. Mr Biden resumed his role as president at around 11:35am EST.

In a statement, White Press Secretary Jen Psaki said: “Later this morning, the President will travel to Walter Reed Medical Center for his routine annual physical.

“As was the case when President George W. Bush had the same procedure in 2002 and 2007, and following the process set out in the Constitution…

“President Biden will transfer power to the Vice President for the brief period of time when he is under anaesthesia. The Vice President will work from her office in the West Wing during this time.”
