The ongoing feud between Prince Harry and Prince William may originally have been sparked by a sausage, according to Princess Diana’s former butler.
One-time Kensington Palace staff member Paul Burrell claims that Harry’s resentment of his “Spare” status began when his older brother was given an extra sausage at the breakfast table.
Burrell, once described as Princess Diana’s “rock,” says “maybe I was glimpsing the dynamic at play” as Harry grumbled about not getting as much to eat as the future king.

Burrell, claims that Harry would grumble “how come he gets three?” as the sausages were dished up, only to be told “William needs filling up more than you. He’s going to be king one day.”
In response to the their nanny’s lighthearted remark, Harry "would fall quiet and suck it up", Burrell says, "but that’s what he had to contend with, even in his own home".
Being always considered second best to William has led to a lifetime of resentment, Burrell believes, and encouraged him to misbehave in order to get the attention he lacked at home.
“William would be measured and stoic, and sort of take everything in. But not Harry. He would have to be the clown, he had to be noticed," Burrell told The Sun.
The 'hardest royals ever' from Anne to Andrew after Harry and William's 'fight'
Burrell has been critical of Harry in the past. After Harry accused the former butler of trying to cash in on Diana’s legacy with his 2001 tell-all autobiography A Royal Duty, Burrell called Harry “angry and petulant”
“I first met him in his mummy's tummy,” Burrell said. I don't recognise the young man I see today. That's not the boy I knew.
“What I see now is an angry, petulant, privileged prince who is constantly blaming other people and not taking accountability on his part”.
But his latest remarks seem to express a little more sympathy for the boy who was forced to walk behind his mother’ coffin as tens of thousands of royal fans watched.
King Charles ‘to pay Andrew's £30m security bill' despite refusing to fund Harry's
Burrell said: “Diana begged Charles not to send Harry to Eton through fear her son would have a tough time at the school in his brother’s shadow.
“But Diana’s plea ultimately fell on deaf ears.
“He went to Eton and suffered the indignity of being constantly compared to William”.
It didn’t help that William told Harry to "pretend we don't know each other”, at school. In a US TV interview The Duke of Sussex, 38, told how he was “hurt” when ordered not to talk to his brother at school.
Harry and Meghan's docuseries puts Royal Family's safety at risk, warn security experts
Harry says his revelations about his early life with William are designed, in part, to quash the native that meeting Meghan Markle somehow drove a wedge between him and the rest of his family.
He says his book “does give a full picture of the situation as we were growing up, and also squashes this idea that somehow my wife was the one that destroyed the relationship between these two brothers.”
Burrell says Harry’s complaint “will never stop” and the only answer is to remove the Duke and Duchess’s royal titles.
He said: “Their only USP is being royal so take away their royal status and nobody will want to know them.”
