A 10-year-girl has been charged with murder in Florida after shooting dead a woman who was in a fight with her mother.
The Orlando Police Department say she was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder, following the incident on May 30, and was taken to the Juvenile Justice Centre without incident.
The child fired two rounds at Lashun Rodgers at an apartment complex on Mercy Drive, in Orlando, after her mother Lakrisha Isaac had got into a heated argument with the victim, with the pair trading blows.
During the fight, Isaac handed her daughter a bag and inside was a gun with which she twice shot Rodgers, who died later in hospital.
Isaac was arrested not long after the killing and she is facing multiple charges including manslaughter, aggravated assault with a firearm, and child neglect.
“This is one of the most tragic cases I have seen in my 22-year career,” said Monique Worrell, State Attorney for Orange and Osceola counties.
“Our office has started the process of reviewing this case and will consider all of the facts, including the age of the child, and all of the surrounding circumstances, when making a charging decision.”
A witness has described hearing the girl shout “she shouldn’t have hit my momma” after pulling the trigger at Rodgers.

He also claimed that Isaac took the gun from the girl and aimed it at his chest after he tried to help Rodgers, causing him to run back to his nearby apartment.
The victim’s aunt Arlene Mathis said of the murder: “She did not deserve that, it was a simple argument.
“What mother does that? It’s not the actions of a child, it’s the actions of a mother.”
