Driver captures house explosion in horror dashcam clip as man arrested for arson

Shocking dashcam footage captured the moment a house went up in flames following a suspected gas explosion.

Police have now arrested a man on suspicion of arson after the incident in Goole, Yorkshire.

The explosion occurred in the early hours of Sunday (January 22). It shook neighbouring homes, leading to the residents of Marlborough Avenue evacuating, reports HullLive.

Police said there were no serious injuries and everyone had been accounted for. The road remained closed this afternoon and people were asked to stay away from the scene.

"A man has been arrested at the scene on suspicion of committing arson with intent to endanger life," a police spokesperson said. "He has been taken into police custody."

Emergency services were called at 1.10am to reports of an explosion and fire. Jonathan Kirk, who was visiting Goole from Hull, had just turned into the street when the house exploded in front of him.

He saw a man climbing out of the house through a shattered window and stopped to help. “It was a bit of a surreal moment. The residents were dazed and a bit shocked,” he said.

Footage from the dashcam in Mr Kirk's car caught the horrifying moment the house burst into flames. The first floor of the terraced house was reduced to rubble.

The police spokesperson added: "The area was cordoned off to allow emergency services to work safely and for the safety of the public. No one is reported to have been seriously injured.

"Neighbouring properties have been evacuated as a precaution. Occupants of all neighbouring properties have been accounted for.

"A road closure and police cordon remain in place, and we are asking for people to stay away from the area whilst emergency services deal with the incident."

A friend of Mr Kirk called 999 and officers from Humberside Police and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service arrived within minutes. It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the flames, Mr Kirk added.
