Flashes of lightning through a rainy night gave way to a warm and somewhat gray, cloudy morning Thursday before expected afternoon rain showers and thunderstorms roll across metro Denver.
The high temperature in Denver will be 75 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The rain will bring more moisture, probably after 1 p.m., forecasters said, and the low temperature Thursday night will be 44 degrees.
On the high plains of eastern Colorado, temperatures likely will exceed 80 degrees Thursday and forecasters anticipate winds gusting at speeds up to 60 miles per hour in a possibly intense afternoon thunderstorm. On Thursday night, rain showers and possible storms are expected to linger.
In the mountains, the temperatures Thursday should exceed 50 degrees, topping 60 degrees in many areas, with isolated thunderstorms dropping rain here and there. The weather service issued a flash flood warning for mountain canyons and foothills west of Front Range cities where severe wildfires have reduced vegetation.
