Crocodile stalks and snatches high-tech drone out of mid-air in terrifying clip

Watch the heart-stopping moment a crocodile stalks and snaps a drone out of mid-air.

ABC News cameraman Dane Hirst was filming with the high-tech drone in Darwin, Australia when a saltwater crocodile started 'eyeballing' his kit.

Hirst reported hearing a 'clamp' as the creature leapt up and dragged the drone into the water.

After being chewed up and spat back out by the croc, the drone washed up a couple of weeks later on the banks of the lagoon.

Crocodiles have the most powerful bite in the animal kingdom, and this camera kit certainly took the brunt of the bite.

The freak event happened during filming for the documentary 'Crocodile Territory' to mark the 50th anniversary of the ban on hunting the reptiles in the Northern Territory.

Speaking to ABC Hirst explained: "I set the drone up over a small lagoon at Crocodylus Park, and all the crocs were really skittish.

"But there was one crocodile, in particular, that was holding its ground and really eyeballing the drone.

"I lined the drone up and moved over the top of him, and as I was doing that I looked up towards the lagoon and saw a crocodile vertical out of the water and heard the great clamping noise of a crocodile's jaws coming together.

"I looked down at my controller and it was a blank screen and no connection, I thought, oh wow, that was a brand new drone, and this is going to be a really hard one to explain to the boss.”
