Christmas will be cancelled for London, South East and the East of England, with those areas moved into a new Tier 4, it has been reported.

Boris Johnson will reportedly tell those living in the capital, south East and East, to "stay at home" this festive season.

Festive bubbles will also only be allowed in Tiers 1-3 on Christmas Day with a "stay local message" and regional travel discouraged, it has been claimed.

The Prime Minister is expected announce the new changes in a press briefing from No.10 at 4pm on December 19.

In a tweet ahead of the briefing, Caroline Wheeler, Sunday Times deputy political editor, said: "Christmas cancelled for London, South East and East, as areas moved into new Tier 4 with "stay at home" message by law.

"Christmas bubbles only allowed for Tiers 1 – 3 on Xmas Day with "stay local message. International travel not advised. Latest plan."

The news will come as a devastating blow to Brits who had been promised a five-day relation of the rules to see loved ones at Christmas.
