China’s coronavirus cases FOUR TIMES higher than official stats – study hints at cover-up

Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Centre puts the number at 83,878, of whom 77,936 are now recovered, with a total of 4,636 deaths. The figure is based on data supplied by the Chinese Government – but a study published in medical journal The Lancet casts doubt on their veracity. The authors, from Hong Kong University’s school of public health, claims China’s national health commission issued seven versions of a case definition for COVID-19 between January 15 and March 3, concluding the changes were likely to have had a “substantial effect” on how many infections were officially confirmed.

Still, this would be an underestimate of the number of infections up to that point

“Some politicians, some people, want to play at being the world’s policeman – this is not the era of gunboat diplomacy, this is not the era when China was a semi-colonial, semi-feudal society.

“These people still live in the old days – they think they can bully China, think they can bully the world.

“China is not an enemy of the United States – if they regard China as an enemy they chose the wrong target.”

“Serological studies will be useful to estimate the cumulative incidence of infections.”

China’s official tally has been the subject of worldwide scepticism for several weeks, not least from US President Donald Trump, whose country has 842,624 confirmed cases and 46,785 deaths – far more than anywhere else in the world.

Speaking earlier this week, Mr Trump said: “We don’t have the-most-in-the-world deaths. The most in the world has to be China.

“It’s a massive country. It’s gone through a tremendous problem with this, a tremendous problem. And they must have the most.”

Last week, Liu Pei’en, a resident of Wuhan who lost his father to the disease, spoke out to voice his doubts about the official death tally after the city’s prevention and control taskforce increased the official figure by 1,290, from 2,579 to 3,869.

Mr Pei’en told ITV: “The real number should be 10 times higher than the reported number.

“The death toll now is 2,500. The real number in Wuhan should be more than 20,000.

“It is impossible that only more than 2,000 died. Impossible.”

Liu Xiaoming, the Chinese ambassador in London, today angrily rejected to suggestions of a cover-up.

He said: “I hear quite a lot of this speculation, this disinformation about China covering up, about China hiding something – this is not true.

“The Chinese government was transparent and very quick to share data.

“Some other country – their local courts sued China – it is absurd.
