Comedian Jo Brand was once complimented by Princess Diana after she made an explicit joke about oral sex on a TV show, it has been revealed.
The 63-year-old, who is currently hosting The Great British Bake Off: An Extra slice, said the Princess came to find her backstage to speak to her about the gag.
Brand said she was "quite surprised" when the royal expressed her enjoyment for the joke she made about a brand of chewing gum called Spunk.
The comedian admitted she used to think members of the Brit nobility were just "wheeled around on trolleys parroting phrases".
But following the encounter with Princess Diana backstage the stand-up concluded she was "cheeky".
Speaking to Jay Rayner on his Out to Lunch Podcast she said: "I was on the Clive James show and when I arrived one of the researchers said 'We have someone really important today but I can't tell you who it is'.
"I went 'Oh for God's sake tell me who it is' and he went 'Ok. Its Princess Diana.'"
She was waiting backstage after the show when the Princess of Wales came to find her.
Queen 'furious' as servants 'revolt and refuse to work for her over Christmas'
She said: "[Diana] came back after the show and Stephen Fry was there as well.
"I [had done] some material about food and products in different languages that sound rude in English.
"One example was a friend of mine sent me some chewing gum from Germany called Spunk, and I don't know why they let me say this on a light entertainment show, but they did.
"I said it was a good name for it because it reminds you not to swallow it.
"[Diana] said to me afterwards 'I thought that joke was really funny' and I was quite surprised really.
"You tend to think that people like her are just wheeled around on a trolley parroting phrases. She was cheeky."
