Social media footage shows smoke billowing out from behind the cockpit of a British Airways Boeing 747-400. Firefighters at Castellón Airport were able to extinguish the blaze, but the jet suffered major damage. Spanish authorities have said there were no casualties from the fire. The cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed.
Castellón Airport issued a statement on Twitter, saying that the Boeing was to be scrapped and no passengers were on board.
They added: “Castellón Airport firefighters and Provincial Fire Consortium Castellón worked together to extinguish a fire in an aircraft.
“There have been no injuries to regret and the fire is already confined.”
Provincial Fire Consortium Castellón also said of the blaze: “It is a plane without passengers and destined for scrapping.”
