Brit tourist, 37, shot dead in Mexico supermarket in wrong place at wrong time

A British bloke touring Mexico is said to have been in the "wrong place at the wrong time" after he was shot and killed near a Mexican supermarket.

Ben Corser, 37, a software engineer from Cornwall, had been holidaying in Mexico since the start of this year but was killed alongside his two friends in Mexico.

The 37-year-old appears to have been caught in the crossfire when he and two friends, Claudio and Alfredo, went to pick up their shopping from a nearby supermarket.

Ben, Claudio and Alfredo all lost their lives, with the three men shot and killed while sitting in their car on Camino Real Boulevard in western Mexico.

His parents, former headteacher Andrew Corser and Lorraine Downes, as well as his brother, Tom Corser, said that Ben had been in "the wrong place at the wrong time".

Ben, who his family say had "become part of the community" in western Mexico, will have his body returned to the UK for a funeral in St Just, Cornwall.

Remembering the 37-year-old, his family said: "Ben has been in Mexico since January 2022, where he had been having a very happy and sociable time, living in different parts of Mexico, becoming part of the community, and also moving around a bit."

The family recounted that their son had been outside the supermarket with his two friends inside of the car when they were suddenly shot dead in what appears to be one in a number of growing crimes in and around Colima, Daily Mail reported.

The Corser family continued: "We have had no explanation, no reasons given, no suggestion of robbery, kidnapping or anything else.

"No doubt the police will eventually conclude their investigation and tell us what they think happened – there had been a dramatic upsurge in Colima in the last few weeks, although this was not directed at all at tourists.

"It it most likely that this was a question of Ben (and Claudio and Alfredo) being tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time."
