Joe Biden urged his supporters to be patient as the US Election 2020 spiralled into a lurch, with the final results expected to take days to be confirmed. Polls had suggested the former vice-president had secured an easy lead on President Donald Trump but failure to secure key electoral votes had that hope collapse. But despite his calming tones, BBC host Kitty Kay suggested Mr Biden had been forced to “reassure voters” after an unexpected collapse that could pave the way for Donald Trump to secure a second term in the White House.

Mr Biden insisted there will need to be patience as swing states count all the votes received tommorrow and in the coming days.

But US President Donald Trump immediately shut down his opponents, insisting the results cannot be delayed much past election day.

Writing on Twitter, Mr Trump said: “I will be making a statement tonight. A big WIN!

“We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!”

Mr Trump’s Tweet however was flagged by Twitter as misinformation, as voters are allowed to cast their ballots even if polling stations have closed as long as they joined the queue to cast their vote when it was still open.

The former vice-president suffered severe setbacks as he failed to win over Ohio and Iowa, considered to be pivotal to secure the White House.

Speaking to supporters in Delaware, he said: “I’m grateful to all my supporters here, all across the nation. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

“You heard me say it before but every time I walk out of my grump’s house up in Scranton,

“I hear ‘Joey, keep the faith.’ And my grandmama would say, ‘Joey, spread it.’ Keep the faith guys, we’re going to win this.”

Despite Mr Biden’s optimism, some social media users have already suggested it is unlikely he will secure a victory against Mr Trump.

One user wrote: “Mathematically impossible but keep the dream alive Joe.”

Mr Biden was able to succesfully flip Arizona in favour of the Democrats as he reconfirmed his hold on Colorado and the whole West Coast of the United States.

The former vice-president has also picked up New Mexico, which was predicted, according to CNN.

The election is looking very tight and commentators have also floated the idea of the US Election 2020 ending up in a tie.

BBC presenter Kitty Kay explained the finala decision would then fall to the House of Representatives based on the congressional representation gained on November 3.
