A Brighton man was arrested Thursday night at a hotel near Denver International Airport on suspicion of firing at field workers on an oil pad in southern Weld County.
Tyler Van Auken, 31, is suspected of menacing and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. He is also suspected of driving after revocation, prohibited use of weapons and reckless endangerment, according to a news release from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office responded to a shots fired call at 2:15 p.m., Monday at an oil and gas site near the intersection of Weld County roads 6 and 29, according to the news release. Witnesses said they were working when the driver of a white SUV drove past and fired four or five shots. Deputies identified the vehicle and its owner, who said Van Auken was the driver.
The Weld County Sheriff’s Office Strike Team obtained an arrest warrant for Van Auken and tracked him to the hotel.
Van Auken is scheduled to appear at 2:30 p.m. Friday for a bond hearing in Weld County District Court, according to the news release.
