Arctic blast and 70mph gales to return as Brits brace for unsettled weather

The treacherous icy weather Brits endured last week is set to return as the UK braces for 70mph gales and unsettled weather this month.

From Monday, (April 12), Brits will finally see friends and family enjoying a few drinks at the local pub as the country moves on to step two of easing lockdown.

However, with socialising only permitted to take place outside the weather is currently the biggest threat, and it looks like the unpredictable British weather is set to continue with arctic air and a cold snap sweeping in once again this week.

Fortunately, pubs and bars have been given faster application processes to install gazebos and marques outside – preventing Brits from getting wet and bashed by wind and rain.

The beginning of April saw the coldest start of the month since 2013, and the cold front could be back again.

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said that "winter returns again" across the UK on Friday with "unusually cold" weather for April.

BBC Weather is forecasting rain in parts of the UK on Friday with a cold front returning after relatively mild weather on Thursday.

The new weather front could cause snow showers to come back to northern Scotland and Northern Ireland during Friday and Saturday.

In northern Scotland, a yellow weather warning has been put in place with the Met Office warning "snow showers and patchy ice" and possible winds of 70mph and temperatures as low as -3C.

Northern England will also be cold, with a mix of sunshine and wintry showers, bringing slight snow cover in places with temperatures hovering around 8 or 9C

In the south of England, it will be cloudy with some rain in places.

In a Tweet, the Met Office wrote: "The #4cast is looking #colder on Friday, especially for northern parts of the UK, with further wintry showers for Scotland & Northern Ireland.

"Cloudier across central and some southern parts of England & Wales with some rain. Drier & brighter in the far south"
