Appearing on BBC’s Any Questions? MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife Murdo Fraser hit out at the SNP’s Minister for Trade, Innovation and Public Finance, Ivan Mckee over previous claims by the SNP that the 2014 independence referendum would be a one off. Mr Fraser probed the SNP’s strategy since the 2014 vote and took aim at the core of their campaign to pull Scotland out of the UK in a furious dismantling of the SNP’s plans to give the Scottish people a second independence referendum.
The MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife said: “Ivan McKee said we should chose our future.
“We did choose our future Ivan, in 2014, the biggest democratic event in the lifetime of anybody in this room in Scotland!”
Fraser went on to stress: “And by a clear majority, people in Scotland said we would stay in the United Kingdom.
“And at that time we were promised by everybody in the SNP that this would be a once in a generation event.”

He clarified: “Indeed, Nicola Sturgeon said it would be a once in a lifetime event!”
“And here we are seven years on not a generation has passed, not a lifetime has passed, here we are seven years later.”
The Scottish Tory went on to question what an independent Scotland would look like and argued nothing has been done to give Scots an understanding of the ins and outs of independence.
He slammed: “We have no idea what the prospectus for an independent Scotland is!”

Later in the show Mr Fraser locked horns with Ivan McKee who claimed that the SNP’s environmental policies are “world leading” for renewable energy.
But in a furious reply, Mr Fraser said: “Ivan talks about all the energy coming from renewable sources, which is welcome.
“The problem with this is that we were promised that Scotland would be the Saudi Arabia of renewable energy.”
He then slammed the SNP saying: “All these renewable energy projects, all the jobs are going overseas!”

Mr Fraser went on to highlight how the Scottish government are making “no attempt” to solve the renewable energy jobs crisis.
He said: “They are all going to other countries because the Scottish government, which grants the planning consent for all these offshore wind farms, has made no attempt to build into the contracts the requirement that some of the work comes here to Scotland.”
And in a damming contradiction of the SNP ministers claims, Mr Fraser pointed to the state of Scotland’s renewable energy industry under Sturgeon and the Scottish National Party.
He stressed: “We’ve seen a hollowing out of our industrial base over the last decade because the jobs are going elsewhere!”
