Susan Aitken, a politician for the Scottish National Party, had attempted to blame Margaret Thatcher for the rat issues in Glasgow. Ms Aitken admitted that the city was facing “challenges” due to the issues they have been facing with the number of rats.

Mrs Thatcher had been Prime Minister from 1979 until 1990, when she left office.

The Iron Lady passed away in 2013.

Despite Mrs Thatcher passing away over 8 years ago, Ms Aitken has still chosen to place the blame on the former Prime Minister.

As well as blaming Mrs Thatcher, the SNP politician also seemed to downplay the rat issues which Glasgow is facing, as she said: “All cities have rats”.

In an attempt to deflect away from the focus on the party for the issues which Glasgow are facing, Ms Aitken said that the issues were down to “a legacy of our post-industrial past when the Thatcher government walked away and abandoned, and left in neglect, communities right across the city”.

However, Ms Aitken was met by a barrage of comments towards her for the passing of the blame on to Mrs Thatcher.

Nile Gardiner, former aide to Mrs Thatcher, declared the comments from Ms Aitken as “madness”.

He tweeted: “Complete madness from the SNP.

“If Margaret Thatcher was actually in charge she would sort out the huge mess in Glasgow, the legacy of decades of failed Socialist/Scottish Nationalist policies.”

Dom M tweeted: “I think SNP politicians holding power are issued with a survival guide, in it, it says:

@Gordy1967 tweeted: “I am sure when you join the SNP you must do an online module on how to blame Westminster and politicians from different parties for every single failure or problem up here in Scotland.

“Westminster to blame and why we must be Independent it will be called.”
