Jeremy Hunt has hit back at the BBC’s Charlie Stayt’s claim that the Tory party has “bottled it”. The BBC presenter said: “The reality here is that you have bottled the very difficult decisions. It’s a phrase you use a lot ‘we’ve got to make diff decisions’. You’ve bottled the really difficult ones and you’ve packaged it up to be dealt with at a later date.”
But the Chancellor hit back, telling Mr Stayt to “look at the front pages of the newspapers”.
He said: “You can accuse me of many failings but I think just looking at the front pages of the newspapers today, to say we have ducked any of the difficult decisions facing the British economy is the one charge we can say we are not guilty of.”
Mr Hunt has fiercely defended the budget, saying it will tackle “the root cause” of the problem caused by inflation.
