Douglas County School District names new superintendent, again

Following a drama-laden search to replace the Douglas County School District superintendent, the board of education has landed on a new interim superintendent.

On Sept. 24, the board voted 5-0 in favor of Corey Wise, according to an announcement. Wise joined DougCo 25 years ago as a student teacher and in the years since has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and founding principal of Legend High School in Parker. His current role is executive director of schools for the East Highlands Ranch region and alternative education.

“We are going to work hard to continue to make us better, to bring in the voices needed, listen to them, and bring the community together to find ways to make the school district stronger,” Wise said in a statement. “It’s not about the past, it’s not about right now, it’s really about what we’re going to do moving forward.”

Wise is the second candidate the school board voted on. Damon Brown of Mapleton Public Schools rescinded his nomination in September, citing a 2019 charge for driving while ability impaired that was causing a stir in the community.

Wise fills the spot vacated by Thomas Tucker, who resigned at the beginning of September. Tucker is under investigation for a workplace discrimination allegation but said he left for familial and personal reasons.
